Portland Rockets
MISHAWAKA and WARSAW - The Portland Rockets swept their weekend road trip, getting three of the four victories from Jay County pitchers.
Jay County High School graduates Mitch Waters, Josh Atkinson and Josh Shatto picked up wins along with Garrett Wiejack as the Rockets topped the South Bend Senators 10-6 in 11 innings and 6-5 Saturday and the Warsaw Indians 6-1 and 6-3 Sunday.
Waters went the distance in the opening game of the weekend, and Atkinson pitched five-plus for the game-two win over South Bend.
In the 11th inning of game one, Chad Geier singled, stole second base and moved to third on a sacrifice by Ryan Shell. Riley Muhlenkamp drove in the game-winning run, and the Rockets tacked on a few more tallies for the four-run victory.
Shell went 3-for-3 with three RBIs in the second win over the Senators.
Wiejak went the distance for the victory in the opener against Warsaw. Geier got the job done again in the second game as he singled, stole second and advanced to third on a Shell sacrifice.
After Muhlenkamp was hit by a pitch, Cory Walradth broke a 3-3 tie with a double and Andy Hughes (JCHS) addded a two run single. Shatto tossed the final three innings for the victory, pushing the Rockets to 7-4 on the season.[[In-content Ad]]
