The Rockets finished the season sweep. But Geneva did not make it easy.
Portland bounced back from a 4-2 deficit to win their 13th straight game 5-4 over the visiting Cardinals Wednesday night at Runkle-Miller Field at Portland Memorial Park. It won all four contests against Geneva this season.
The home team took an early 1-0 lead, but the Cardinals came back thanks in part to the efforts of a Jay County High School graduate. Josh Selvey (JCHS - 2007) came up with a bunt single to key a three-run fourth inning for Geneva.
But the Rockets came right back, scoring single tallies in three consecutive innings to hold on for the win. They are now 28-6 on the year.
Ryan Shell had two hits in the victory, and Garrett Wiejak tossed the first six innings for the win. Josh Atkinson and Josh Shatto (both of JCHS) and Cory Waldrath tossed the final three frames.
