Rupp, Waugh lead Starfires

BERNE — Michael Rupp and Erika Waugh each turned in two individual wins, and they carried the Starfires when the team needed them the most.
Rupp, Waugh, Alex Fox and Kara DeLong teamed to win the meet-ending 400-yard freestyle relay to life the South Adams High School girls swim team to a 92-91 victory over the visiting Concordia Cadets. The Starfire boys fell 95-88.
The SAHS girls (5-0) won the final relay by nearly two seconds with a time of 4 minutes, 12.08 seconds. Rupp’s two individual wins came in the 100 freestyle (1:04.59) and 100 breaststroke (1:18.76), and Waugh took the 200 freestyle (2:05.86) and 500 freestyle (5:31.36).
Olivia Turner won the diving competition with 132.6 points, and Kara DeLong took the 100 backstroke in 1:08.55.
The boys team (2-1) earned three victories with Caleb Wurster taking the 200 freestyle (2:03.67), Mitchel Kaverman winning the 100 breaststroke (1:13.02) and Lance Hummer finishing first in diving (164.25 points).

SA girls fall
WINCHESTER — The South Adams girls basketball team fell behind by 20 in the opening quarter and connected on just four field goals in a 66-10 loss Tuesday to the Winchester Golden Falcons.
Taylor Farlow scored four points for the Starfires, who trailed 36-5 at the half and scored just one point in the fourth quarter. Katrina Hawkins scored three points, and Lyndsey Chandler had four rebounds.
SAHS (1-7) shot 4-of-22 and turned the ball over 34 times.
Jill Morrison paced the Golden Falcons (6-2) with 18 points, Emily Sells scored 17 and Ashley Meinerding added 13.

Tribe 7th rolls
DELPHOS, Ohio — Fort Recovery Middle School’s seventh grade boys basketball team cruised to a 52-16 victory Tuesday over the host St. John’s Blue Jays. The eighth grade team lost 34-24.
J.J. Overton scored 10 points to pace the seventh graders in their season opener. Jackson Hobbs and Wes Wenning each added seven points.
Cole Wendel finished with nine points to lead the seventh grade squad. Cole Hull and Dillon Whitacre each totaled five points.

Jays top FR girls
FORT RECOVERY — The Fort Recovery eighth grade girls basketball team struggled in the third quarter Tuesday in a 21-18 loss to the St. John’s Blue Jays. The seventh grade team lost 32-19.
Haley Knapke scored four points for the eighth graders (1-2), who scored just two points in the third quarter. Tori Lennartz and Kara Jutte each tallied three points.
Caitlyn Huelskamp, Trisha Thien and Kasey Vogel each put in four points for the seventh grade team (0-3).

FR freshmen lose
The Fort Recovery freshman boys basketball team fell 31-23 Monday to the New Bremen Cardinals, and the freshman girls lost 44-22 to the Fort Loramie Redskins.
Kyle Timmerman totaled 12 points and 10 rebounds to lead the Tribe boys, who are now 1-1. Kent Retz added six points.
Breanna Jutte finished with six points for the FRHS girls (0-3). Lexi Schmitz and Jackie Fullenkamp each scored four points.[[In-content Ad]]
