SA defeats Saints

FORT WAYNE — A different lineup brought the same result.
The South Adams High School boys tennis team used an almost entirely different lineup compared to its season-opening win Tuesday against Winchester. But not much changed on the courts as the Starfires improved to 2-0 with a 4-1 win over host Bishop Dwenger.
Even with the changes, the most dominating position for SAHS was still No. 2 doubles. Derek Schwartz, who teamed with Scott Hoeppner for a 6-0, 6-1 win against Winchester, joined Ian Frank Thursday for a 6-1, 6-2 victory.
At No. 1 doubles, Hoeppner and Kegan Sprunger picked up a 7-6 (7-3) 6-2 win. Singles victories came from No. 2 player Mark Muselman, who was at No. 3 Tuesday, in a 2-6, 6-4, 6-0 comeback and No. 3 Reid Zurcher, who played doubles Tuesday, by a 6-4, 6-4 score.
Alex Huber lost 6-0, 6-0 at No. 1 singles.
SAHS won the junior varsity match 3-2 with wins from Jonathan Steffen, Brayden Myers and the team of William Hicks and Dylan Pierce.

Spikers fall in three
BERNE — Despite close calls in each of the first two games, the Starfire volleyball team lost 27-25, 25-23, 25-12 Thursday to the visiting Canterbury Cavaliers.
Taylor Farlow had 13 digs and six kills for South Adams, which won its season opener Monday over Blackford. Alyssa Bluhm added 10 assists, three kills and three aces.
The Starfires won the junior varsity match 25-16, 25-22 behind seven aces, three kills and two digs from Hannah Mitchell.

Golfers lose to two
FORT WAYNE — South Adams dropped to 1-4 on the season as it posted a 229 to finish last in a three-team match Thursday. The Fort Wayne South Side Archers won with a 195 at McMillen Golf Course, and the North Side Redskins were second at 226.
Kristen Lehman led the Starfires with a 52, and Abbie Fisher shot 57. Sam Schwartz and Adrienne Pursley completed the team score with matching 60s, and Kristal All shot 68.
South Side’s Zoe Brehm was the medalist with a 42.[[In-content Ad]]
