SA grad Steiner named All-HCAC (12/07/04)
Collegiate check-up
Scott Steiner couldn’t have finished his collegiate career much better.
The South Adams graduate and Bluffton College linebacker was named to the All-Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference first team. He and three teammates made the first team as the Beavers finished 5-5, 3-3 HCAC, their best mark since 2001.
Steiner led Bluffton in tackles with 122, which was good for second in the conference. He was second on the team with seven pass break ups.
He also had 7.5 tackles for a loss, four interceptions and one blocked field goal.
Steiner was a second-team All-HCAC player in his sophomore and junior seasons.
Sara Heitkamp
The Fort Recovery graduate and her Capital University women’s basketball team are not fooling around.
Ranked No. 4 in the nation in the NCAA’s Division III, Heitkamp has led the Crusaders to a 4-0 record. She has been the leading scorer in each of the team’s games as it has posted wins of five, 14, 18 and 20 points.
Heitkamp had her best game Thursday, racking up a season-high 31 points in an 88-68 victory over Mount Vernon. She finished 11-of-16 from the field, and also led the team with seven rebounds. She added three assists and three steals.
She shared a team-best of 16 points with Jennifer Lilly in a 67-53 triumph over Wittenberg Nov. 27, and added game-highs of nine steals and six assists. She also grabbed five rebounds.
Heitkamp, named a preseason third-team All-American by D3hoops.com, is currently averaging 21.3 points per game and 7.0 rebounds. She is shooting 56 percent from the field and has 12 assists and 19 steals so far this year.
Amy Meyer
The 2001 South Adams graduate has started all 10 games as the University of St. Francis women’s basketball team has gotten off to an outstanding 8-2 start.
Meyer, a senior, scored eight points in the most recent win for the Cougars, an 87-83 victory over Huntington College Nov. 30. She hit a pair of 3-pointers and also grabbed three rebounds.
She hit a trio of 3-pointers a game earlier, finishing with 11 points in an 83-80 loss to Cornerstone University. She added eight points as the Cougars defeated Goshen College 65-58 Nov. 23.
Meyer is averaging 8.2 points per game this year while shooting 46.3 percent from the field. She has 23 rebounds, eight assists, six steals and one block.
Tyler Niekamp
The Fort Recovery graduate got the first points of his collegiate career in the second game of the season for Findlay University.
After going scoreless in just a few minutes of play in his first game, Niekamp was perfect in his second. The red-shirt freshman went 3-of-3 from the field, including 1-of-1 from 3-point range, and 2-of-2 from the foul line to score nine points in a 94-73 victory over Salem International.
He also grabbed one rebound in the Nov. 24 game.
Niekamp added a rebound in three minutes of action in a 79-66 loss to Miami University Nov. 29.
Dustin Overton
A graduate of Jay County, he played a part in the Ancilla College men’s basketball team’s third straight victory Wednesday.
Overton scored two points as the Chargers topped the Bethel College junior varsity team to improve to 4-2. He also played in Ancilla’s 124-98 win over the Tri-State JV squad.[[In-content Ad]]
