STRAUGHN — The Starfires did everything they could do during the regular season. Now they will be looking for tournament titles.
With a sweep of five matches at Saturday’s Tri Invitational, the No. 19 South Adams High School wrestling team finished a perfect dual meet season at 27-0. It defeated Alexandria 37-31, Hamilton Heights 54-15, Southridge 58-9, Northeastern 72-9 and the host Titans 76-6.
Josh Ehr, who is ranked second in the state at 152 pounds, finished 4-0 to lead the Starfires and run his season record to 31-0. L.J. Moser (112), Todd Batt (125), Isaac Werst (171) and Maverick Morningstar (HWT) all went 3-0 for SAHS.
The Starfires, who won the regular-season Allen County Athletic Conference title, will try for the tournament crown Saturday before heading to the Jay County sectional Jan. 28.

EJ eighth wins
East Jay Middle School’s eighth grade boys basketball team came out on top Saturday as it hosted the East Jay Invitational. The seventh graders finished as runners-up.

Alex Krieg and Will Rowles led the Chief eighth graders (8-3) to the title as they each scored nine points in a 45-23 victory over Bellmont. Justin Dirksen had 13 points in East Jay’s 38-26 opening-round win over St. Joe.
In seventh grade action, Bowen Runyon had 12 points and Bryce Hensley scored 10 as EJMS opened with a 31-22 win over Bellmont. Hensley had seven in the Chiefs’ 28-22 loss to St. Joe in the title game.

Stars go 1-2
DECATUR — The East Jay and South Adams middle school wrestling teams each picked up one win at Saturday’s Bellmont Triple Duals. South Adams won the head-to-head match between the two schools 36-24, and East Jay defeated Muncie Wilson 48-25.
Levi Hummel (135) turned in a perfect day for the Chiefs, winning all three of his matches by pin. Logan Antrim (230) was 2-0, and Scott Somers (125) and Andrew McShane (130) each won their only contested match of the day. Colten Compton (80), Alex Abbott (100), Kaleb Toland (140) and Hunter Giellette (155) each finished 2-1.
Gage Conner paced the Starfires were a perfect 5-0 record, Chance Sprunger and Sawyer Miller went 4-0 and Ryan Ford and Boaz Marbach were 3-0.[[In-content Ad]]
