MONROE - The South Adams High School girls tennis team picked up its first win of the season Friday, defeated Fort Wayne North Side 4-1 at Adams Central. The Starfires also lost 5-0 to Fort Wayne South Side.
Sarah Muselman and Amber Neuenschwander led the Starfires (1-8) as they dominated at No. 1 doubles, defeating Liz O'Brien and Azra Rizvic 6-0, 6-2.
Kassy Potts and Lindsey Graber finished off a doubles sweep with a 6-4, 6-2 win over Jessica Blattner and Wahida Aziz.
Tori Kistler rolled over Cierra Mickel 6-2, 6-1 at No. 1 singles, and Alex Fox defeated Jenna Hough 6-2, 6-3 in the No. 3 singles match. Kellie Howell suffered a 6-1, 6-0 loss against Sarah Hillery at No. 2 singles.
Both doubles teams went three sets in the loss to South Side.
Jay 4th at invite
DEKALB - Jay County High School's girls tennis team placed fourth out of seven teams at Saturday's DeKalb Invitational.
Ashley Caupp and Danielle Chenoweth paced the Patriots with their runner-up finish at No. 2 doubles. After getting a first-round bye, they defeated Emily Koeneman and Abby Stimpson of Bellmont 8-5 in the semifinal round. They fell 8-2 to the host Barons in the championship match.
Kayla Martin won her opening round match 8-0 over Sierra Daniel of Snider at No. 2 singles, and the No. 1 doubles team of Emily Huntsman and Becky Muhlenkamp beat Randi Miller and Brittany Gagnon of Westview 8-2 at No. 1 doubles. Both went on to finish fourth.
Alyssa Rigby picked up the only other win for JCHS, defeating Alysha Helmrich of Bellmont 8-3.
SA baseball falls
FORT WAYNE - The South Adams High School baseball team lost 3-1 Saturday to the Leo Lions at Parkview Field.
Taylor LeFever scored the lone Starfire run after a single in the fourth inning. He moved to third on a single from Dustin Wanner and scored on a double steal.
Taylor Smith took the loss, giving up three runs on six hits and two walks in five innings.[[In-content Ad]]
