SA swimmers defeat Cadets

BERNE — The Starfires trailed after dropping the 500-yard freestyle and the 200 freestyle relay. But victories in each of the final three events propelled them to another win.
South Adams High School girls swim team kept its perfect season in tact Tuesday as it came back for a 90-86 victory over the visiting Concordia Cadets. The boys team improved to 2-0 as it took all three relays and cruised to a 96-63 win.
Kara DeLong started the comeback for the SAHS girls by winning the 100 backstroke in 1 minute, 3.84 seconds, with teammate Sidney Sprunger in second place. Cady Farlow followed with a victory in 1:11.05 in the 100 breaststroke, and Michaela Rupp, Ellie Kaverman, DeLong and Farlow locked up the win as they took the 400 freestyle relay by less than a second in 4:05.44.
Farlow was also first in the 100 freestyle in 56.44, and DeLong took the 100 butterfly in 1:03.13.
Freshmen Drew LeFever and David Steffen paced the boys team, with LeFever finishing first in the 200 individual medley in 2:24.44 and the 100 butterfly in 1:00.36. Steffen’s victories came with times of 24.37 in the 50 freestyle and 55.88 in the 100 freestyle.
Cory Sank was first in the 200 freestyle in 2:07.08, and Daniel Burson won the 100 breaststroke in 1:15.57.

SA falls to Falcons
WINCHESTER — South Adams’ girls basketball team pushed the Class 2A No. 8 Winchester Golden Falcons, but fell short in a 39-31 loss Tuesday.
Alyssa Bluhm returned after missing Saturday’s loss to Heritage because of an illness, scoring 18 points to lead the Starfires (3-5). Sharon Balsiger added seven points for SAHS, which trailed by five at halftime.
Jill Morrison, who will play at Ball State University next season, tallied 19 points to pace Winchester (7-0). She scored most of those thanks to a 15-of-16 effort at the free-throw line.
Bailey Gates added 10 points for the Golden Falcons.


Fort 7th graders win
ST. HENRY, Ohio — The Fort Recovery Middle School seventh grade girls basketball team improved to 2-0 Tuesday with a 39-7 trouncing of the St. Henry Redskins. The eighth grade team fell, 30-21.
Carley Stone scored 10 points and Grace Thien had nine for the seventh grade Indians. Chloe Metzger and Madi Grover added six points apiece.
Devin Post finished with 10 points for the eighth grade squad, which is now 1-1. Whitney Will scored eight points.

St. Henry tops Tribe
FORT RECOVERY — Fort Recovery’s eighth grade boys basketball team lost 49-46 Tuesday to the St. Henry Redskins. The seventh grade team fell 28-11.
Micaiah Cox racked up 22 points for the eighth grade Indians (0-1) in the defeat. Caleb Martin added 12 points.
Cade Wendel and Evan Post each scored four points for the FRMS seventh grade squad (0-1).
