MUNCIE - The South Adams High School swim teams won all but one event Thursday against the Muncie Southside Rebels. The boys team posted a 132-41 victory while the girls' winning margin was 130-29.

Eric Feeney, Alex Habegger and Justin Klopp led the boys team while Erika Waugh, Allison Beitler and Jessica Sharp each earned two wins for the girls.

Habegger took top honors in the 50- and 100-yard freestyle, leading sweeps in both events. Feeney was first in the 200 freestyle and 100 backstroke, and Klopp won the 200 individual medley and the 100 breaststroke.

Beitler finished first for the SAHS girls in the 50 freestyle and 100 backstroke. Waugh led the way in the 200 individual medley and 100 butterfly, and Sharp was victorious in the 100 freestyle and 100 breaststroke.

Other winners were Caleb Wurster (500 freestyle) and Lance Hummer (diving) for the boys team, and Alyssa Sharp (200 freestyle) and Sherri All (500 freestyle) for the girls.

Chiefs win big

East Jay Middle School's boys basketball team got better and better defensively Thursday on the way to a 60-29 victory over Winchester.

The seventh graders dominated the second and third quarters for a 39-27 win.

The eighth grade game was tied at 14 at the close of the first quarter, and EJMS led just 23-22 at halftime. But it allowed just five points in the third quarter and two in the fourth to blow the game open.

Brock McFarland and Kegan Comer each finished with 16 points for the Chiefs. Cade Price also reached double figures with 12.

Jacob Schlosser led the seventh grade Chiefs, who outscored Winchester 28-12 in the middle two quarters. Zane Shreve added nine points.

WJ and SA split

DUNKIRK - The West Jay and South Adams middle school girls basketball teams settled for a split Thursday. WJMS won the seventh grade game 23-22 while the Starfires took the eighth grade contest 24-13.

Betsy Huffman scored nine points for the West Jay seventh graders, who improved to 6-2. Ashley Motter added eight points.

South Adams shut out the Eagles in the second quarter of the eighth grade game and led 14-4 at halftime. Shelby Shirk scored seven points for WJMS.
