South Adams roundup
BERNE — Three different boys won two events Thursday and Trisha Myers racked up three victories for the girls as the Starfires clobbered the visiting Winchester Golden Falcons.
The South Adams High School boys track team won all but one event in a 114.5-8.5 triumph, and the girls team turned in an 85-38 victory.
Chaise Moore, Eric Isch and Joel Schmidt led the boys squad, with Moore taking the 200-meter dash in 24.6 seconds and the shot put with a toss of 37 feet, 9 inches. Isch was first in the 1,600 run in 5 minutes, 2 seconds and the 3,200 run in 10:46, and Schmdit took the 110 hurdles in 17.8 and the 300 hurdles in 42.2.
Myers also swept the hurdles for the Starfire girls, taking the 100-meter event in 17.7 and the 300 in 54.1 She won the high jump at 4 feet, 8 inches.
Also adding victories for the boys team were Josh Ehr (100 dash - 11.9), Cameron Lengerich (long jump - 16 feet, 2 1/2 inches), Justin Wygant (400 dash - 55.2), Logan Steiner (high jump - 5 feet, 6 inches) and Time Lehman (800 run - 2:11). Other wins for the girls came from Hannah Mitchel (shot put - 28 feet, 11 1/2 inches), Hannah Moore (1,600 run - 5:54), Chelsea Moore (400 dash - 1:10), Adrianna Teeter (long jump - 13 feet), Kara Haines (200 dash - 30.7) and Kristen Muselman (800 run - 2:39).
Softball holds on
South Adams rallied from a 5-2 deficit to score four times in the fourth and fifth innings for a 6-5 victory over the visiting Winchester Golden Falcons.
Alyssa Bluhm paced the South Adams offense, going 4-for-4 with two runs and leading off the Starfires’ three-run fourth inning with a bunt single. Brianna Nevil added three hits, including a double, and an RBI, and Jen Miller smacked a pinch-hit double to drive in two runs in the fourth inning.
Lilly Taing earned the victory, allowing five runs — four earned — on seven hits and four walks in five innings. Bluhm tossed two scoreless innings of relief.
Bluhm was also 3-for-4 with a run and an RBI March 31 as South Adams dropped its season opener 9-4 to Blackford.
’Dogs top baseball
The host Starfires couldn’t manage any more offense after scoring a run in the opening inning as they fell 12-1 in five innings to the New Haven Bulldogs.
Taylor Smith took the loss for South Adams, which gave up three runs in the third inning and eight more in the fifth.
