BERNE — The Muncie Southside Rebels were no match for South Adams.

The Starfish girls swim team won every event Thursday to stomp Southside 137-27. The boys squad got a pair of wins from Matt Kruse in a 110-54 victory.

Kruse controlled the longest races of the night in leading the South Adams boys. He won the 200-yard freestyle in 1-minute, 52.83 seconds, and took first place in the 500 freestyle with a time of 5:12.32.

Other wins for the boys team came from John Gresla in the 200 individual medley, Justin Klopp in the 50 freestyle and Shane Swygart in the 100 backstroke.

Eight different swimmers each picked up one win for the girls team, starting with Haleigh Lehman in the 200 freestyle. She was followed by Shannon Muselman (200 individual medley), Jessica Sharp (50 freestyle, Jalisa Balsiger (100 butterfly), Kirsten Wurster (100 freestyle), Channing Yoder (500 freestyle), Tamara Moser (100 backstroke) and Margaret Beymer (100 breaststroke).

FR 8th perfect in MAC

NEW KNOXVILLE, Ohio — Fort Recovery’s eighth grade boys basketball team stayed perfect in the Midwest Athletic Conference, using a mammoth fourth quarter for a 58-50 victory over the New Knoxville Rangers.

The seventh grade Indians stumbled in the opening period in a 40-26 loss to New Knoxville Thursday.

The Fort Recovery eighth graders (7-1, 5-0 MAC) trailed by seven with one period to play, but outscored the Rangers 25-10 in the fourth quarter.

Greg Kahlig paced the Indians with 18 points. Cody Fiely and Michael Gaerke also reached double figures with 16 and 11 points respectively, and Josh Wendel had nine points.

New Knoxville outscored the Indians 19-4 in the opening quarter of the seventh grade game en route to its win. Craig Fortkamp and John Homan each had four points for Fort Recovery.[[In-content Ad]]
