SAHS falls to Bellmont

DECATUR — Sixty is the magic number.
Three times this year the Starfires have held opponents to fewer than 60 points. All three of those games were victories.
They gave up 68 Tuesday.
The South Adams High School boys basketball team struggled on the defensive end, allowing the host Bellmont Braves to score 10 more points than they had in any game this year in a 68-56 loss.
Dustin Wanner finished with 16 points for the Starfires (3-6), who have given up an average of 68 points in their six losses. He also had four rebounds and three assists.
Scott Hoeppner added 13 points, and Chase Mosser scored 10. Matt Alig grabbed six rebounds.

Celina tops SA
BERNE — The South Adams High School boys swim team suffered a 167-78 loss Tuesday to the visiting Celina Bulldogs. The girls team scored 109 points to finish behind Celina (157) but ahead of the St. Henry Redskins (36).
Cady Farlow picked up two of the four Starfire victories, winning the 200-yard individual medley in 2 minutes, 23.89 seconds and the 100 breaststroke in 1:11.36. Kara DeLong added a first-place finish with a time of 1:04.85 in the 100 backstroke.
Mitchel Kaverman earned the lone win for the South Adams boys, taking the 100 breaststroke in 1:11.12.
Peyton Jones and Mason Miller each won a pair of events for the Bulldog boys.

Tribe boys split
FORT RECOVERY — Dominant first and fourth quarters carried the Fort Recovery Middle School eighth grade boys basketball team to a 69-31 victory Tuesday over the Union City Indians. The seventh grade squad lost 24-20.
J.J. Overton scored 16 points for the undefeated eighth graders (6-0), who had a 23-8 lead after the opening period and outscored Union City 19-5 in the fourth. Chase Bruns added 11 points.
Jason Roessner tallied eight points as the seventh grade team slipped to 3-3. Travis Sutter and Nate Ontrop each scored four points.

FR girls fall
VERSAILLES, Ohio — Fort Recovery’s middle school girls basketball teams each fell Tuesday to slip to 3-5.
The eighth graders lost 35-32 to the Versailles Tigers while the seventh grade team suffered a 38-18 defeat.
Kendra Siefring was the top scorer for the Indians, finishing with nine points to lead the eighth grade squad. Kirsten Jutte added six points.Whitney Will’s six points led the seventh grade team. Grace Gehle followed with five.

Chiefs top Delta
MUNCIE — The East Jay Middle School sixth grade boys basketball team won its season opener 30-20 Tuesday over host Delta.
Ethan Myers scored 14 points to lead the Chiefs to the victory. Caleb Manor added six points.
Jade Smith scored every point for the B team in a 20-14 defeat.[[In-content Ad]]
