SAHS falls to Falcons

BERNE — The Starfires played Winchester strong in the opening period. But they wore down as the game went on.
South Adams was tied with the visiting Golden Falcons after the first quarter, but got outscored by 15 in the second half in a 60-40 high school girls basketball defeat.
Dzejna Ahmetovic racked up 16 points and 14 rebounds for the Starfires (1-7), but couldn’t keep up with Winchester’s star player. Jill Morrison, a junior who has committed to player college basketball at Ball State University, finished with 28 points and eight rebounds as the Golden Falcons improved to 4-4.
Lauren Smith followed Ahmetovic with 11 points for South Adams. She, Kristen Muselman, Alaina Johnston and Allison Amstutz each had three assists.
In the junior varsity game Kelli Lehman scored seven points for the Starfires in a 26-24 loss.

SA swimmers fall
BERNE — The Starfires won just five events Tuesday as the girls and boys lost 106-64 and 106-51 respectively to the Concordia Cadets.
Cady Farlow, a freshman, was the lone double winner for South Adams (4-1), which suffered its first loss.
She took the 100-yard breaststroke in 1 minute, 13.41 seconds and the 100 freestyle in 58.12. Kara DeLong added a victory by nearly five seconds in the 100 backstroke in 1:06.93.
Farlow and DeLong also teamed with Michaela Rupp and Ellie Kaverman to take first place in the 200 medley and 200 freestyle relays.
Pauley Laiken and Sara Doerffler each won two events to power the Concordia girls, and Levi Hoffman, Joshua Thomas and Joel Schroeder added two wins apiece for the boys.
The SAHS boys (1-2) went without a victory. Josh Dynes placed second in both the 200 and 500 freestyle.

Tribe freshmen win
FORT RECOVERY — The Fort Recovery freshman boys basketball team eked out a 45-43 overtime victory Tuesday over St. Marys.
Mitch Stammen scored 12 points to lead the Indians (2-1), who gave up a seven–point lead in the final period before bouncing back for the win. Cole Hull and Cole Wendel joined Stammen in double figures with 10 points apiece.

Jays defeat FR
DELPHOS, Ohio — Fort Recovery Middle School’s seventh grade girls basketball team fell 31-20 Tuesday to the host St. Johns Blue Jays. The eighth graders also lost, 36-16.
Whitney Will and Devin Post each had eight points for the Indian seventh graders (1-2). Grace Gehle and Sydney Alig added two points apiece.
Kendra Siefring had six points as the FRMS eighth graders fell to 0-3. Kasey Vogel had three points.

Tribe eighth rolls
FORT RECOVERY — The Fort Recovery eighth grade boys basketball team blanked the St. Johns Blue Jays in the opening quarter Tuesday on the way to a 57-11 victory. The seventh graders lost, 35-13.
Kyle Schroer and J.J. Overton both single-handedly outscored St. Johns for the Indians (1-0), who were up 20-0 in the opening quarter. Schroer racked up 14 points, and Overton finished with 12.
Tom Koester had four points for the FRMS seventh graders in their season-opening defeat. Calvin Rammel and Kyle Knapke each scored three points.[[In-content Ad]]
