SAHS falls to No. 6 Golden Eagles

BERNE - The South Adams High School boys basketball team was down 9-0 within the first two minutes, and trailed by double-digits from the mid-point of the second quarter on. One of the best teams in Class 2A was just two much for the Starfires.
SAHS lost its 15th straight game Tuesday, dropping an 80-56 decision to the Class 2A No. 6 Winchester Golden Falcons.
South Adams, which closes the regular season with road games against Eastbrook Friday and Blackford Saturday, committed 23 turnovers in the defeat. Nick Teeter led the scoring effort with 14 points, and Scott Hoeppner added 13. Dustin Wanner totaled 10 points, six rebounds and four assists.
Neal Beshears powered Winchester with 26 points and nine rebounds. Brandt Miller had 15 points, and Kyle DeBoy scored 10.
Eagle wrestlers split
DUNKIRK - West Jay Middle School's wrestling team came away with a win and a loss Tuesday, topping Daleville 78-12 but falling 54-42 to Wes-Del.
Coby Green (110) earned a pair of pins for the host Eagles, finishing his match against Daleville in 19 seconds and against Wes-Del in 56 seconds. Sean Winget (125) also had two victories with a pin in 4 minutes, 7 seconds against Wes-Del and an 18-8 major decision against Daleville.
Other victories for West Jay against Daleville came from Jesse Finnerty (120) in 20 seconds, Andrew Eley (175) in 20 seconds and Zack Hyer (HWT) in 57 seconds.
Against Wes-Del, WJMS got pins from Bryce Bantz (105) in 1:52 and Chaz McClain (135) in 32 seconds.
Schindler wins AA
LAFAYETTE - Korinna Schindler led a group of local athletes competing for Marion's Mid-America Gymnastics Feb. 13 at the CrossRoads of Champions meet.
Schindler won the vault, balance beam and floor exercise in the 11-year-old Level 5 competition at the meet on the way to the all-around title. Halle Hill (8-year-old, Level 5) won the uneven bars and floor, Courtney Miles (9-11-year-old, Level 7) was second on both the beam and bars and Riley Leavell (8-year-old, Level 5) took third on the vault.
Jocelyn Huey (10-year-old, Level 4) won the vault with a 9.4 a week earlier at the Sweetheart Mardi Gras Invitational. Schindler won the vault with a 9.15, Hill was second on the floor with a 9.4 and Leavell scored an 8.1 on the floor.[[In-content Ad]]
