SAHS golfers finish in 3rd

WOODBURN — The South Adams High School boys golfers finished third out of four teams Monday with a score of 183 at Pond-A-River Golf Course.
Host Woodlan won the event with a 158, followed by Heritage at 171. Adams Central was last with a 209.
Dan Heckard led the Starfires for the first time in his career, finishing with a 44. Mark Muselman and Mark Smith each followed with 45s, and Chase Mosser and Derek Fox both posted 49s.
South Adams finished second behind Woodlan (186) in the junior varsity competition with a 225.
Lions top tennis
BERNE — The Starfire girls tennis team slipped to 1-2 Monday with a 3-2 loss to the visiting Leo Lions.
Alex Fox picked up the only singles win for South Adams, defeating Briana Russel 6-4, 6-2. Lindsey Graber and Kassy Potts fought off Kaitlyn Johnson and Kacie Klopfenstein in the second set to win 6-2, 7-5 at No. 1 doubles.
In other singles matches, Aine O’Donnell lost 6-0, 6-0 to Madison Carroll at No. 1 and Abbie Campbell fell 6-2, 6-3 to Laura Matrisciano at No. 3. At No. 2 doubles, Mallory Eicher and Holly Taylor lost 6-2, 6-2 to Cassie Aker and Brooke Seibel.
Johnston leads track
BERNE — Alaina Johnston won three events Monday to pace the host South Adams Middle School girls track team to a 67-42 win over the Bluffton Tigers. The boys team fell, 65-44.
Johnston took the top spot in the 100-meter dash in 14.7 seconds for the Starfires, and won the 400 dash in 1:09.4. She was also first with a leap of 13 feet, 5 ¼ inches in the long jump.
Kara Seffernick added a pair of victories with times of 3:06 in the 800 run and 6:26 in the 1,600 run. Caroline Kloepper finished first in the 200 dash in 33.3.
Kody Coates won the 800 run for the boys team in 2:40, and Drew LeFever was first in the discus at 99 feet, 6 inches.[[In-content Ad]]
