SAHS shuts out Golden Falcons

BERNE — The Starfires reversed roles Tuesday.
After suffering a shutout loss in its season opener Monday, the South Adams High School baseball team responded with a 9-0 victory over the visiting Winchester Golden Falcons.
Nick Batt silenced the Winchester lineup for the Starfires (1-1), who fell 10-0 Monday to Class 3A No. 5 Norwell, as he combined with teammate Kyle Raugh on a one-hitter. Batt struck out 11 batters while allowing one hit in six innings, and Raugh struck out one in the seventh to finish off the win.
Corey Seffernick powered the South Adams offense, going 3-for-4 with a double and scoring three times. Blake Fox added two hits, three RBIs and a run, and Lance Hummer had a single, a double, a run and an RBI.

Tribe girls second
FORT RECOVERY — The Fort Recovery girls track team scored 48 points Tuesday to finish second in a three-team meet behind New Bremen (79) and ahead of New Knoxville (26).
New Bremen also tallied 102 points to win the boys competition with New Knoxville (40) second and Fort Recovery (33) third.
Two of the three victories for the Indian girls came in the field events, with senior Kylie Kahlig winning the shot put by more than three feet at 35 feet, 5½ inches. Kelsey Fiely, a junior, took the top spot in the high jump at 4 feet, 8 inches.
Sam Tobe added a win in the 400-meter run in 1 minute, 11.2 seconds.
Aaron Vagedes picked up the lone win for the boys team, taking the 100 dash in 11.8.

’Skins top Fort
FORT RECOVERY — The St. Henry Redskins dropped the Fort Recovery junior varsity baseball team to 0-6 Tuesday, handing it an 11-2 defeat.
The Indians gave up two runs in the first inning and trailed 5-0 before getting on the board in the fourth.
St. Henry scored four times in the sixth inning and twice in the seventh to put the game away.
Cole Wendel had a double and an RBI for the Tribe. Derek Backs had the only other hit and scored a run.[[In-content Ad]]
