SAHS streak ends

MARION — The Starfires stayed close, but their winning streak came to an end.
The Eastbrook Panthers stopped the South Adams High School’s girls soccer team’s run at three games on Thursday as they handed the Starfires a 2-0 defeat.
SAHS (6-9), which had picked up consecutive wins over Lakewood Park Christian, Mississinewa and Woodlan, gave up one goal in each half. Alaina Johnston finished with 23 saves.
Rachel Simon led the Starfires with seven shots on goal. Samantha Sprunger, Michael Rupp and Jasmin Thuerich added one shot apiece.
South Adams will open sectional play Tuesday when it hosts Concordia.
Volleyball falls in five
BERNE — Host South Adams won two of the first three games against the Adams Central Flying Jets, but couldn’t finished off the victory as it fell 23-25, 25-18, 22-25, 25-12, 15-8.
Alyssa Bluhm paced the Starfires with 18 kills, 12 digs and three blocks. Ashlynn Jennings put up 40 assists.
Lauren Smith finished with 21 digs, and Cady Farlow added 13 kills.
SAHS also dropped the junior varsity match, 25-9, 25-18.
SAMS spikers split
BERNE — The South Adams Middle School eighth grade volleyball team picked up a 25-10, 25-17 win Thursday over the visiting Adams Central Flying Jets. The seventh graders lost, 25-22, 19-25, 15-5.
Morgan Alberson had eight kills to lead the Starfire eighth graders. Abby Myers added six kills.
Jade Farlow led the seventh grade team with six aces and two kills.[[In-content Ad]]
