SAHS tops Cavs, Barons

BERNE — The South Adams High School swim teams each topped two opponents Thursday.
The Starfire girls scored 125 points to edge DeKalb (122) and Coldwater (76) for a victory in their home pool. The boys tallied 112 points to defeat DeKalb (69) and Coldwater (57).
Kara DeLong and Cady Farlow set the pace for the SAHS girls (10-6-1), with DeLong taking the top spot in the 100 backstroke in 1 minute, 5.96 seconds and the 50-yard freestyle in 26.81. Farlow earned victories with times of 2:20.54 in the individual medley and 1:10.1 in the 100 breaststroke.
Jacob Werst was the lone double winner for the Starfire boys (6-8) with wins in the 100 butterfly in 1:01.04 and 200 individual medley in 2:27.1.
Also picking up wins were Kristal All and Brandi Robinson for the girls team and Josh Dynes, Cory Sank and Mitchel Kaverman for the boys.

SA girls fall again
CHURUBUSCO — South Adams’ girls basketball team struggled to score Thursday in a 49-23 loss to the Churubusco Eagles
The Starfires (3-14) shot just 23 percent from the field as they were held to fewer than 30 points for the fifth time this season.
Lauren Smith had a team-high nine points and also grabbed five rebounds for SAHS, which trailed by 10 at the half en route to its fifth straight loss. Lydnsey Chandler added eight points, and Dzejna Ahmetovic scored the other six.
Alaina Johnston had 12 rebounds and three assists.
In the junior varsity game, Ashleigh Freeman finished with four points for the Starfires in a 49-13 defeat.

FR eighth wins ninth
NEW KNOXVILLE, Ohio — Three players scored in double figures Thursday to lead the Fort Recovery Middle School eighth grade boys basketball team to a 56-41 victory over the New Knoxville Rangers.
The seventh graders lost, 33-30.
Kyle Schroer racked up 16 points for the Tribe eighth graders (9-3), who outscored New Knoxville 14-3 in the second quarter to take control. Chase Bruns and Jackson Hobbs each added 11 points.
Caleb Martin tallied 10 points as the seventh grade squad slipped to 3-9. Jason Roessner and Austin Faller had six points apiece.[[In-content Ad]]
