SAHS tops Rebels in 2

At home or on the road, the South Adams High School soccer teams were happy to see the Rebels.
The Starfire boys traveled to Muncie Southside and earned their first victory of the season, 8-2, and the girls beat the Rebels 2-1 at home.
Hirotaka Asoako, a foreign exchange student from Japan, powered the SAHS boys (1-3) with three goals in the first half as the team built an 8-0 lead. He also had an assist.
Kyle Glidewell tallied two goals to go along with three assists, and Dustin Dellinger and Ivan Fernandez each had one goal and three assists. John O’Donnell also contributed a goal.
Erika Miller and Rachel Simon each notched goals in the first half as the Starfire girls improved to 2-4. Alaina Johnston assisted on the goal by Miller.
L.J. Moser totaled 10 saves for the boys team.

Lehman leads Stars
GENEVA — The South Adams girls golf team dominated on at Golf Club of the Limberlost for a 199-215 victory over the visiting Eastbrook Panthers.
Kristen Lehman racked up half of the Starfires’ six pars on the way to earning medalist honors with a 44. She played even on the 370-yard, par-5 second hole, the 258-yard, par-4 seventh and the 85-yard, par-3 ninth.
Austina Cansler paced Eastbrook with a 49.
Kristal All and Abbie Fisher added one par apiece as they each shot 51 for South Adams, who improved to 6-3. Sam Schwartz also had a par in her round of 53.
The Starfire junior varsity team turned in a 250-299 victory with Alleigh Wingler leading the way with a 61.

Petro paces Jay
FARMLAND — Katlin Petro posted a career-best round for the second time in less than a week Monday to lead the Jay County girls golf team to its best round of the season, but the Patriots still had to settle for a split.
JCHS scored a 208 in three-team action to finish behind the Wapahani Raiders (199) and ahead of the host Monroe Central Golden Bears (261) at Hickory Hills Golf Club.
Petro, who broke 50 for the first time last week at Portland Golf Club with a 49, parred the 380-yard, par-5 first, the 280-yard, par-4 third and the 272-yard par-4 fourth holes Monday. She was 1-over-par through the first four holes and added two more bogeys in her round on the way to a 47.
Kyla Tighe of Wapahani edged Petro for medalist honors with a 46.
Senior Brittany Stevens and freshman Madison McCormick each parred the fourth hole as well as they turned in matching 53s for the Patriots, whose previous best round was a 212. Alysia Fennig rounded out the team score with a 55, and Whitney Gray shot 58.

Louck powers JV
Chase Louck paced Jay County Monday as it knocked off the Blackford Bruins 22-20 in junior varsity/freshman football.
Louck scored a pair of rushing touchdowns and added a pair of two-point conversions for the Patriots, who led 14-6 at halftime. Corey Bellis added a 75-yard kickoff return for a touchdown.
Cody Bellis led the defense with a fumble recovery and a sack, and Kaleb Bell also had a fumble recovery.

Fort spikers win
The Fort Recovery freshman volleyball team rallied from a game-one loss at home Monday to defeat the visiting St. John’s Blue Jays 20-25, 25-22, 26-24. The Tribe middle school volleyball teams won their season openers at Union City West Side — the eighth graders by a 25-16, 25-13 score and the seventh graders by a 25-15, 25-23 final.
Caley Schoenherr led the victory for the freshman Indians (1-1) with seven points and four digs, and Emilie Sheridan added seven points and two kills. Jurnee Bechtol scored 12 points, Morgan Leuthold had four kills and one block and Rachel Pugh put up four assists.
Kirsten Jutte scored half of her 12 points with aces to power the eighth grade team, and also had three kills. Tori Vaughn scored six points, and Julie Wendel had four assists.
Devin Post finished with 11 points and a kill for the seventh graders. Emily Hart added 10 points.[[In-content Ad]]
