Schmitz, Tribe top Marion Local (04/25/03)

FRHS Roundup

Sarah Schmitz has had her share of success against Marion Local. But this time around she and her teammates were able to celebrate a win.

Schmitz tossed a one-hitter Thursday against the Flyers, and Fort Recovery improved to 2-0 in the Midwest Athletic Conference with a 2-1 victory. She tossed a no-hitter against the Flyers in sectional action last season only to suffer a 1-0 defeat.

Fort Recovery took the lead when leadoff hitter Lisa Grisez singled and scored in the first inning. Marion Local responded with its only run of the game to tie things at 1-1 in the fourth inning.

The score remained the same until the Tribe got a run in the bottom of the seventh from freshman Renee Evers to pull off the one-run win.

Schmitz earned the win in seven innings, allowing one run on one hit. She struck out four and walked five.

Grisez, Joscie Kaup and Krystal Rammel each had one hit for the Indians (8-3). The Tribe defense played a flawless game, going the full seven innings without an error.

Fort Recovery will play a double-header at Franklin Monroe Saturday at 11 a.m.

Loramie downs Recovery

Fort Recovery couldn’t muster much offense Thursday as it dropped a 3-1 decision to Fort Loramie. The loss knocked the Indians record to 7-9 on the season.

The Redskins scored once in the fourth inning and twice in the sixth to build a 3-0 lead. Fort Recovery got its only run in the seventh inning.

Greg Snyder was saddled with the loss, giving up three runs on seven hits in six innings. He struck out five and walked two.

Greg Faller had two of the Indians’ four hits, going 2-for-2 with a double. Dusty Guggenbiller and Greg Heitkamp also notched doubles, and Mitch Staugler scored his team’s only run.

Fort Recovery will play at Marion Local today at 5 p.m.

Flyers flatten JV softball

The Fort Recovery junior varsity softball team couldn’t stop Marion Local from circling the bases Thursday in a 19-2 defeat. The Indians gave up seven runs each in the first and third innings on the way to the five-inning defeat.

Kelsie Will took the loss, tossing just one inning. Megan Wenning pitched the final three innings.

Kristen Schwieterman went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases and a run. Brenda Rindler was 2-for-2 with an RBI, and Jill Wehrkamp scored a run.[[In-content Ad]]
