Schwieterman wins leg 2 (07/08/04)

Cy Schwieterman Drainage took first place in the second leg 2004 W&M Manufactuaring and Winchester Speedway’s Go-Kart Grand Prix Series Wednesday.

The team of Mark Osterholt, Dave Link, Tom Schwieterman, Joe Osterholt and Jerry Schwieterman took the title in the feature race hosted by the Hoosier Heartland Chapter of the America Red Cross and the Vintage Motor Bike Club. The victory kept the team in contention for the championship in the overall series, which concludes at the Jay County Fair Sunday, July 25.

The Cy Schwieterman Drainage team also finished first in its heat, and was fourth in qualifying to earn 16 points on the evening. It is now third in the overall standings with 29 points.

Cooper Farms finished with the most points on the evening — 18 — as it placed second in the feature race after winning its heat and posting the top qualifying time. The team of Aaron Siefring, Shawn Theiman, Randy Timbush, Brad Westgerdes and Dave Knapke jumped to the top of the overall standings with 32 points.

Progressive Office Supply, which was third in the feature race, is second in a tight four-team race in the overall standings with 31 points. Ingle Realty/Osterholt Motorsports is fourth behing Cy Schwieterman Drainage with 28 points.

Tourney changed

The Jay County High School inaugural 4-on-4 flag football tournament, which was originally scheduled for June, has been moved to Saturday, Aug. 7.

There will be five divisions, one each for fourth, fifth and sixth graders; seventh and eighth graders; freshman and sophomores; juniors and seniors; and anyone out of high school. Each team is guaranteed three games.

The entry fee is $100 per five-person team, and the deadline to enter is Saturday, July 31. Each participant will recieve a T-shirt, and there will be awards for the top three teams in each division.

Baseball tourneys

Huntington County Baseball will sponsor three age-group baseball tournaments at the end of this month.

Tournaments will be held for 10-and-younger, 12-and-younger and 14-and-younger teams. They will be played from July 28 through August 1, and each team will be guaranteed four games.
