Season ends for Rockets
Portland Rockets
CINCINNATI — The season came to a close for the Portland Rockets Friday night with their second consecutive loss in the National Amateur Baseball Federation regional tournament, 1-0 to the Cincinnati Chiefs.
Bill Geeslin gave the Rockets an excellent pitching effort, allowing just two hits as he went the distance. He did not allow a hit over the final five innings.
The Chiefs, who Portland defeated in last week’s World Baseball Congress Tournament, scored their only run on a wild pitch.
The Rockets (19-19) managed just three hits in the game, but still had a chance in the seventh. Bryan Brudi led off the final frame with a single, and Justin Marrero drew a walk.
But Cincinnati induced a double play followed by a pop out to end the game.
Jay County High School graduate Heath Williams and Mark Isenberg had the other two hits for Portland.[[In-content Ad]]
