Seniors lead victory over LC (10/02/06)

Local roundup

ANDERSON - Seniors Luke McClung and Mason Shreve led the Jay County boys soccer team to a 2-0 victory over the Liberty Christian Lions Saturday.

The victory followed an 11-0 triumph over Muncie Southside Sept. 25, giving the Patriots back-to-back wins for the first time since Sept. 7.

Jay County (7-6) got on the board late in the opening half, when the Liberty Christian goalie couldn't hold on to the ball. McClung volleyed the rebound back into the net for a 1-0 lead with 9:16 remaining before the intermission.

Shreve gave the Patriots control just after the break. He took control of a loose ball in the goal box at the 36:34 mark and hammered it home for the 2-0 lead.

It was a defensive battle, with Jay County recording just two shots on goal compared to two for Liberty Christian.
