Seniors power Indians (03/30/05)

FRHS softball

BRADFORD, Ohio — With a pair of seniors leading the charge, the Fort Recovery softball team got off to a solid start Tuesday with a 6-3 victory over the Bradford Railroaders.

Krystal Rammel and Brenda Rindler accounted for four of the Indians’ five hits in the victory, each finishing 2-for-3. The Tribe (1-0) fell behind 1-0 in the first inning, but scored three times in the second and twice in the third to take control for good.

One of Rammel’s hits was a solo home run as she finished with a pair of runs and an RBI. Rindler added a triple, two RBIs and one run.

Another senior, Megan Wenning, ripped an RBI double, and Sandra Sudhoff added a stolen base and a run.

Senior Alyssa Tobe went the distance for the victory, allowing three runs on eight hits. She struck out three and walked two.

PJL draft moved

The Portland Junior League has changed its draft day to Saturday, April 9.

Drafting will begin at 9 a.m. with the Sandy Koufax league. Willie Mays will follow at 10 a.m., with Pee Wee Reese at 11 a.m. The Minor League softball draft will be at 2 p.m., followed by the Major League at 3 p.m.

Player sign-ups will continue to be accepted until the day of the draft.

Golf outing scheduled

The State of the Heart Home Health & Hospice will hold its golf outing Friday, May 13 at Beechwood Golf Course in Arcanum, Ohio.

The event will be a four-person scramble, with registration at 10 a.m. and a shotgun start at 11 a.m. The entry fee is $300, which includes a cart, dinner and awards.

Lifeguarding class set

Jay County High School will host a two-week lifeguarding course beginning next week at the JCHS pool.

The first session will be Monday at 6 p.m. Anyone 15-and-older is eligible to attend, and the cost is $125.

Camp at Purdue

The Purdue University women’s basketball program will host several camps for players in first through 12th grade this summer.

On the schedule are a parent/daughter camp for grades one through eight on June 4, a resident camp for sixth through 12th graders June 5-8, an offensive skills camp for eighth through 12th graders June 8-10, a high school team camp June 17-19 and one-day shooting camps for junior high and high school June 29-30. There is also a day camp planned for first through sixth graders Aug. 1-5.
