Local Roundup
MINSTER, Ohio — On the final day of March the Fort Recovery junior varsity softball team looked more like a team which had been playing for months.
In their season opener the Indians went without an error and turned a trio of double plays. They also got a 3-for-3 effort from Jode Tobe in a 2-1 victory over the Midwest Athletic Conference rival Minster Wildcats.
The Tribe (1-0) scored once in the first inning and once in the third for a 2-0 lead. Tobe led the effort with four stolen bases and one run to go along with her three hits.
The advantage stayed the same until the bottom of the seventh inning when the Wildcats scored once. But relief pitcher Kim Willmann worked out of the jam to hold on for the victory.
Beth May got the win, pitching 61/3 innings of scoreless softball. She struck out three batters while walking four and allowing three hits.
Lauren Wenning had the lone extra-base hit for the Indians with an RBI double. Sara Fortkamp singled and scored the other run.
