Shier named to first team (11/05/07)
Local roundup
COLDWATER, Ohio - One of the big reasons for Fort Recovery's most successful football season against a full Midwest Athletic Conference schedule was the play of its offensive and defensive lines. That effort brought an MAC honor to the Indians last week.
Senior Chuck Shier was voted All-MAC on both offense and defense, leading a group of seven FRHS players to earn awards.
Shier, who plays offensive and defensive tackle for the Indians, was named to the All-MAC first team for both offense and defense.
There was also a pair of second-team honorees - Toby Metzger at receiver and Ross Overman at linebacker.
Chris Stucke and Tim Goodwin of Division V No. 1 Marion Local were voted Offensive Player of the Year and Coach of the Year respectively. Parkway's Jordan Thompson was selected as the Defensive Player of the Year.
Picking up honorable mention from Fort Recovery were Luke Staugler, Frank Thien, Greg Kahlig and Ben Tobe.
Solid New York effort
NEW YORK - Three Portland men ran Sunday's marathon in New York, and all three finished in just over four hours.

McShane, 41, ran an average mile of 9:17 in his first career marathon. He was 12,864th in the field of about 30,000, and 2,302 in his age group.
