BLUFFTON — Dexter Shreve paced the Patriots again Monday as the Jay County freshman boys basketball team improved to 4-1 with a 43-12 beating of the Bluffton Tigers.
Shreve, who scored in double digits Friday at Bellmont and Saturday versus Blackford, had another big game inside. He finished with a team-high 14 points, shooting 7-of-11 from the field, grabbed nine rebounds and blocked a shot.
The Patriots were never challenged in the game as they pulled out to a 10-2 lead in the first quarter. Bluffton managed just two points in the first, second and fourth quarters while Jay County shot 57 percent for the game.
Kyle Simmons followed Shreve with eight points along with team highs of four steals and two assists. Phil Powell added seven points and two steals.
Starfires stay hot
BERNE — South Adams’ wrestling team has gotten off to a rollicking start.
The Starfires won all five of their matches as invitational hosts Saturday to improve to 10-0 this year. They defeated Northwestern 69-12, Fort Wayne Harding 72-12, Eastside 71-10, Union City 60-24 and Eastbrook 54-23.
Chase Sprunger (103), Josh Mann (112), Colt Gentis (119) (135), Christian Baer, Dustin Ehr (152) and Caleb Moore (215) all went 5-0 on the day for South Adams, which won 55 out of its 70 individual matches. Adam Hirschy (160) and Josh Kimberlin (189) each finished 4-1, and Jim Marbach (130) and Stephen Hirschy (3-2) also posted winning records at 3-2.
Indians edge Versailles
VERSAILLES, Ohio — Fort Recovery’s freshman boys basketball team improved to 2-0 Monday with a 31-29 victory over the Versailles Tigers.
Tom Will reached double figures for the Indians, scoring a team-high 12 points. Brent Faller added nine points, and Brady Kahlig scored four.[[In-content Ad]]
