Shreve leads runners at state

Middle school cross country

CARMEL - Zane Shreve turned in the top finish as the East Jay and West Jay middle school cross country teams competed Saturday at the Indiana Middle School Cross Country Championships.

The EJMS girls had the best team finish, taking 10th out of 27 teams. The East Jay boys were 18th out of 31 teams, and the West Jay boys were 31st.

Shreve finished less than five seconds out of the top 25 in the field of more than 200 runners with a time of 11 minutes flat for EJMS.

Emi Minnich led the Chief girls in 41st at 12 minutes, 17 seconds, and Abigail Johnson was just seven seconds behind her in 48th. Joining them were Alex Loy (61st - 12:30), Amber Huelskamp (62nd - 12:30) and Megan Wellman (68th - 12:33).

Miranda Gerber finished in 12:56 for West Jay to place 94th, and Desiree Parfitt was 203rd in 14:34.

Chaz Carroll finished in 120th with a time of 12:11 for the East Jay boys followed by Jalen Ryder (134th - 12:21), Nicholas Leuthold (136th - 12:22) and Tyler Wendel (137th - 12:23).

Skylar Newsome finished in 13:08 to lead the West Jay boys in 192nd place. Skyler Johnson aws 197th in 13:18 ahead of Darrian Bechtol (217th - 14:30), Caleb Kraft (218th - 14:31) and Kyler Carvel (224th - 14:57).

Top junior varsity runners for East Jay were Ashley Heniscey (53rd - 13:49) in the girls race and Matt Blackford (106th - 13:04) for the boys.[[In-content Ad]]
