JCHS boys track

BLOOMINGTON - Before the high school season has even started, Dexter Shreve is already soaring.

Shreve turned in by far the best long jump of his career, bringing home a medal Saturday at the Class 4A/5A Hoosier State Relays at Indiana University.

The Jay County High School junior jumped nearly a foot farther than a week earlier at the Patriot Invitational, soaring 21 feet 4½ inches at the indoor meet to finish in eighth place. His qualifying jump at the Patriot Invitational was 20 feet, 5 inches, and his leap at the sectional meet last year was 19 feet, 6¼ inches.

Shreve edged Scottie Alora of Bloomington by a half inch for the eighth and final medal position. Lawrence North's Jordan Conley won the event at 22 feet, 9 inches.

He also competed in the high jump, finishing in an 11-way tie for 11th place as he cleared the bar at 6 feet, 0 inches. Derrick Spight jumped 6 feet, 8 inches to win the event.

The Patriots will begin the outdoor season Tuesday, April 1, when they host Muncie Southside and Blackford.[[In-content Ad]]
