PORTLAND — Dexter Shreve has been a consistent double winner for the East Jay boys track team. He went a step further Wednesday.

Shreve won three events for the Chiefs as they dominated Monroe Central 80-20.

Cori Vormohr won two events for the girls team, which also topped the visiting Golden Bears, 64-36.

Shreve led an East Jay sweep in one of his events, dominating the high jump at five feet, six inches. Brandon Reynard was second at four feet, 10 inches, and Nick Stephen took third at four feet, six inches.

Shreve added a second field-event win by taking the long jump at 16 feet, 81/2 inches. He was also first in the hurdles, again in front of Reynard, in 16.71 seconds.

In addition to his second-place finishes Reynard added a couple of wins in the sprints. He took the 100-meter dash in 11.86 seconds and the 200 dash in 25.81.

Isaac Poole took first in the 1,600 run in 5-minutes, 32.88 seconds, and Patrick Johnson was first in the 400 run in 1:04.42.

East Jay also won the 4x100 and 4x400 relays.

Vormohr dominated both throwing events, winning the discus by more than 15 feet at 84 feet, nine inches. She also took the shot put by more than four feet with a toss of 29 feet, 43/4 inches.

Kelsey Wood added a third field event win in the high jump at four feet, four inches.

Kaelee Keller was first in the 200 dash in 30.55, Katie Butcher took the 800 run in 2:58.03 and Tiffany Helms won the 1,600 run in 6:11.44.

The girls team also took the win in the 4x400 relay.

East Jay also dominated both B team competitions, with the girls winning every event for an 80-9 win while the boys lost just twice in a 78-22 victory.

Erica Butcher and Jordan McMillan accounted for four of the girls team’s victories. Butcher was first in the hurdles (21.08) and the 100 dash (14.78), and McMillan won the 200 dash (30.92) and the high jump (four feet, two inches).

Also adding wins were Cassie Laux (1,600 run), Katie Butcher (400 dash) Mallory Poole (800 dash), Tanner Martin (shot put) and Shalynn Bailey (long jump).

Brad Horn carried the boys B team by taking first in the hurdles (20.92), the 1,600 run (5:52.46) and the 800 run (2:41.12). Ben Walter added victories in the 100 dash (14.42) and the long jump (12 feet, 111/2 inches).

Other wins for the Chiefs came from Joe Imel (200 dash), Quinten Hinshaw (discus) and Isaac Poole (high jump).

WJ tops Salamonie

WARREN — West Jay’s track teams also scored a couple of victories Wednesday night. Brady Mills, Sha White and Andrew Lancaster each came up with a pair of wins as the boys team defeated Salamonie 78-31, while Lindsay Current led the girls team to a 60-49 win.

Mills took first in the 800-meter dash, winning in 2-minutes, 19 seconds. His other victory came in the long jump at a distance of 16 feet.

White was first in the hurdles in 18.44 seconds and the discus with a toss of 117 feet, and Lancaster took the shot put at 37 feet, 11 inches and the 400 run in 1:02.4.

Other victories for the boys team came from Chris Mooney in the 1,600 run (5:56), Blake Price in the high hump (four feet, 10 inches) and Don McCowan in the 200 hurdles (31.0). The Eagle team of Mills, Price, Lancaster and McCowan also took the 4x400 relay in 4:26.

Current was the only West Jay girl to win two events. She was first in both the long jump and the high jump.

Kelci Reed added a victory in the 1,600 run, Kristen Selvey won the 800 run, Kylie Ann Kelso won the 200 dash and Christa Castillo took the 200 hurdles. Current, Castillo, Kelso and Macey Gerber were also first in the 4x100 relay.[[In-content Ad]]
