Shreve, Ryder lead EJ past three (10/07/2008)

MUNCIE - Zane Shreve and Jalen Ryder teamed to lead East Jay Middle School to its only win of the night.

The duo paced boys in the sixth and seventh grade race as the Chiefs scored 26 points to win a four-team cross country meet over host Delta (37), Wes-Del (71) and West Jay. In the eighth grade boys competition, EJMS (49) was second behind Delta (22) while West Jay and Wes-Del did not have enough runners for a team score.

Delta also won the girls competition with 20 points, ahead of East Jay (48) and West Jay (106).

Shreve posted a solid win in the boys race with a time of 12-minutes, 13 seconds. Jalen Ryder was 12 seconds behind him to take the runner-up spot.

Austin Muhlenkamp finished five in 12:54, Nicholas Leuthold was seventh at 13:15 and Chaz Carroll completed the victory in 11th at 13:42.

Keegan Gerber turned in the best time for West Jay at 14:05 for 13th place. Jordan Wood was 27th in 16:42 followed by Jesse Finnerty (28th - 16:43) and Jon Lowe (33rd - 19:02).

The tops East Jay runners in the other two races finished in second place - Dylan Cope in 11:41 for the eighth grade boys and Amber Huelskamp in 12:47 for the girls.

Kyle Scott was behind Cope in fourth place with a time of 12:03. Jacob Schlosser was 13th in 13:51 ahead of Austin Butcher (14th - 14:13) and Remington Arnold (16th - 14:22).

Lee Mock was the lone West Jay runner, finishing 21st with a time of 17:02.

Abigail Johnson trailed Huelskamp in the girls race in sixth place at 13:39, while Miranda Gerber paced West Jay in ninth at 14:10. Trailing Johnson for the Chiefs were Alex Loy (12th - 14:05), Patricia Hein (13th - 14:08) and Julie Valentine (15th - 14:39).

Jenna Star was 19th for West Jay in 14:58 followed by Meagan Price (21st - 15:10), Mykala Grayson (61st - 15:52) and Lynsay Buckland (33rd - 16:58).[[In-content Ad]]
