BERNE — Another rough start led to South Adams’ fifth loss of the season Tuesday.
The Starfire girls basketball team trailed 18-4 after the opening period and fell 55-41 to the Winchester Golden Falcons Tuesday. The squad, which managed just nine first-half points in Saturday’s loss to Heritage, slipped to 1-5 on the season.
Julie Muhelnkamp paced South Adams with 18 points, going 6-of-11 from the field and 6-of-6 from the line. She also grabbed a team-best seven rebounds.
Kayla Coblentz added eight points and five steals, and Andrea Moser had four rebounds.
Mallory McCormick poured in 21 points for Winchester, hitting four 3-pointers. Kelsey Tarter had 13 points, and Chelsea Hawley added nine.
South Adams also lost the junior varsity game, 42-38.
Boys tankers top Cadets
FORT WAYNE — Matt Kruse and Justin Klopp each won a pair of events leading the South Adams boys swim team to a 104-69 victory over the Fort Wayne Concordia Cadets Tuesday. The Starfire girls team took a 108-68 defeat.
Kruse won a pair of fairly tight races, finishing first by less than four seconds in the 200-yard individual medley in 2-minutes, 14.75 seconds and the 100 butterfly by two seconds in 57.05. Klopp won the sprints with a time of 24.38 in the 50 freestyle and 55.74 in the 100 freestyle.
Other wins came from Drew Dull in the 200 freestyle, John Gresla in the 500 freestyle, Shane Swygart in the 100 backstroke and Kyle Affolder in the 100 breaststroke.
Winning for the girls team were Jessica Sharp in the 200 freestyle, Haleigh Lehman in the 100 butterfly and Lacy Rhoades in the 100 breaststroke.[[In-content Ad]]
