Snyder sweeps for Jay County

MUNCIE — Katie Snyder swept all four events again Wednesday, leading the Jay County High School gymnastics team to a 101.65-86.3 victory over the Muncie Central Bearcats.
Snyder’s top effort came on the vault, where she posted a winning score of 94. She added a 9.25 on the floor exercise and added scores of 8.35 on both the uneven bars and the balance beam for her all-around total of 35.425.
The Patriots nearly swept every event, with only Central’s Kenya Whitelow taking second place on the floor with an 8.75.
Norwegian foreign exchange student Nikita Gundersen turned in second-place efforts on a pair of events for Jay County with scores of 8.35 on the beam and 7.725 on the bars. She was also third on the floor with an 8.625.
Tasya Smith was second on the vault at 8.7 and third on the bars with a 7.575, and Kristen Ainsworth finished third on both the vault (8.55) and beam (8.3).

Jay tankers split
NEW CASTLE — The host Trojans won all but one event Wednesday, but Jay County was still able to come away with a split.

The Patriots defeated Muncie Southside 64-33 and lost to New Castle 72-29 in the double dual meet. The Trojans defeated Southside 79-22.
Neal Fennig came up with the lone victory for JCHS, dominating the 100-yard freestyle by nearly seven seconds with a time of 51.54 seconds. He was also the runner-up in the 200 freestyle in 1:53.05.
Travis Steed placed second in the 100 butterfly in 1:15.26, and Alex Sutton was second in the 500 freestyle in 5:43.74.

Eagles fall to SA
DUNKIRK — West Jay Middle School’s wrestling team fell 33-27 Tuesday to the visiting South Adams Starfires.
Four of the Eagles’ victories came by pin, with Triston VanSkyock finishing off his 145-pound match in just 19 seconds. Other pins came from Bryce Bantz (125) in 43 seconds, Brandon Hollingsworth (175) in 2 minutes, 40 seconds and Grant Alsip (135) in 3:32.
Coby Green (120) picked up a 9-6 victory.[[In-content Ad]]
