Softball beats Bears

PARKER CITY — Jay County’s softball team scored as many runs Tuesday as it has wins on the season.
Four Patriot batters had multiple hit games in a 21-0 blowout win in five innings over the host Monroe Central Golden Bears.
Jay County (21-1) plated five runs in the second inning and six in the fourth before exploding for 10 in the fifth.
Chloe Steigerwalt and Larissa Boles each had three hits — including a double — and drove in a pair of runs as the Patriots tallied 15 hits for the game. Katie Aker chipped in with a single, a double and two RBIs.
Katlin Petro also had a two RBIs on two singles. Gabby Hart, Chelsea Tighe, Kai-Li Baughman, Courtney Finnerty and Mikayla Gross all had singles.
Boles limited the Golden Bears to one hit and struck out a dozen to push her record to 16-1.

Netters drop finale
ALEXANDRIA — In its regular-season finale, the Jay County girls tennis team lost to the Alexandria-Monroe Tigers, 4-1.
Kyra Braun picked up the only win for Jay County (2-10), beating Danielle Maynard 7-5, 7-5 at No. 3 singles. Jessica Kerrigan and Morgan Kaufman weren’t able to win a game at No. 1 and No. 2 singles respectively. Abbie Miller beat Kerrigan 6-0, 6-0, and Hannah Libler defeated Kaufman by the same score.
At No. 1 doubles, Alexandria’s Anna Etherington and Alisha Paddock beat Sydney Bost and Shawna Miller 6-4, 7-6. Faith Parr and Emily Westgerdes lost to Kennedy Aiman and Abby Ford 6-2, 6-4 at No. 2 doubles.
Jay County’s junior varsity team also lost to the Tigers by a score of 8-0.
The Patriots look to defend their 2013 sectional title when they open postseason play at 5 p.m. today as they host the Union City Indians.

Boolman’s takes two
In Portland Junior League, Boolman’s Auto Sales picked up a pair of wins recently in the Sandy Koufax League.
Boolman’s beat Local 1620 10-6 Saturday and 15-5 Monday.
Jake Boolman had five hits and six RBIs over the two games, and Gaven Hare had four hits, including two home runs. Taylor Klarer and Nate Dalrymple added three hits apiece, as Boolman’s racked up 27 hits in two games.

Frontline wins
Frontline Construction beat First Bank of Berne 11-8 in Minor girls softball Tuesday in Portland Junior League action.
Aubrie Schwieterman and Tricia Ison both had a pair of hits and scored three times for Frontline. Lexie Ferguson added two hits and one run, and Kristen Wendel also tallied two hits.
