South Adams climbs above .500

BLUFFTON — A late burst of runs pushed the Starfires above .500.
After going scoreless for the first four innings Thursday, the South Adams High School baseball team put up three runs in the fifth to take the lead on the way to an 8-3 victory over the Bluffton Tigers.
Kyle Raugh hit a home run to key the late offensive surge and finished 3-for-5 with two runs and two RBIs. Collin Affolder had two hits, including a double, and two RBIs, and Blake Fox singled and scored twice.
Dustin Wanner earned the win for the Starfires (5-4), who were up 3-2 after the fifth inning and added two runs in the sixth and three in the seventh. He gave up two runs on six hits and two walks in four innings, and Nick Batt earned the save as he allowed one run on three hits and three walks in three innings.

Wildcats blank FR
FORT RECOVERY — The Fort Recovery softball team dropped its 14th straight game Thursday, falling 12-0 in five innings to the Division IV No. 7 Minster Wildcats.
Minster (13-3, 2-1 Midwest Athletic Conference) took the lead with three runs in the second inning and added five in the third and four in the fourth.
Beca Tobe suffered the loss for the Indians (2-14), giving up 12 runs — seven earned — on nine hits and five walks. She struck out four batters.
Karissa Will, Melissa Lochtefeld and Jackie Fullenkamp had one hit apiece.

SA crushes Tigers
BLUFFTON — South Adams’ softball team finished off the Bluffton Tigers early Thursday, rolling to a 14-3, six-inning victory.
The game was tied at 1-1 through three innings before the Starfires (4-6) tallied three runs in the fourth, three in the fifth and seven in the sixth.
Alyssa Bluhm earned the win as she struck out six batters. She gave up three runs — two earned — on six hits and four walks in six innings.
Alexis Ford led the offensive onslaught with two hits, including a double, three runs and two RBIs. Lauren Smith had a single, a triple and four RBIs.
Alaina Johnston racked up three hits, and Lydnsey Chandler, Brianna Nevil and Lily Taing each added two.

Woodlan tops Starfires
GENEVA — Derek Fox walked away with medalist honors, but the South Adams boys golf team fell short in a 170-177 loss Thursday to the visiting Woodlan Warriors.
Fox led the way for the Starfires as he shot 39 at Golf Club of the Limberlost. Mark Smith followed with a 43, and Peter Amstutz shot 46.
Mark Muselman rounded out the team score with a 49, and Chase Mosser finished at 51.
SAHS won the junior varsity match 205-225 with Brad Green posting a 49.[[In-content Ad]]
