South Adams cruises past Bluffton

BERNE — Blake Fox didn’t have to worry about run support. The Starfires kept adding to their lead every inning.
Fox scattered seven hits Monday and the South Adams High School baseball team scored in every inning of its 11-1, five-inning victory over the visiting Bluffton Tigers.
Corey Seffernick went 3-for-4 with two runs and a stolen base for the Starfires, who scored three times in the first inning as they improved to 7-5 overall and 2-0 in the Allen County Athletic Conference. SAHS tacked on two runs in the second inning and scored four times in the fourth.
Eric Pimentel was 2-for-3 with two RBIs and a run, Alex Augsberger had three hits and an RBI and Collin Affolder finished with two hits, an RBI and a run.
Fox struck out four batters and did not allow a walk as he went the distance for the win.

Cards defeat FRHS
NEW BREMEN, Ohio — The Fort Recovery softball team slipped to 1-8 Monday with a 4-2 loss in a non-conference game against the New Bremen Cardinals.
The Indians gave up a run in the bottom of the first inning and were never able to pull even. New Bremen extended its lead to 4-0 before FRHS scored twice in the seventh inning.
Ashley Homan suffered the loss, giving up four runs — two earned — on five hits and three walks in six innings. She struck out four batters.
Jackie Fullenkamp finished with a double, a run and an RBI to lead the Tribe offense. Chelsea Timmerman singled and scored a run, and Janelle Schwieterman had an RBI.

SA blasts Generals
FORT WAYNE — South Adams’ softball team racked up 12 runs in the first two innings Monday on the way to a 20-0 victory over the host Wayne Generals.
Maddie Morgan went 3-for-4 with four RBIs and a run to lead the Starfires, who scored eight times in the second inning for a 12-0 lead. They added three runs in the third inning, one in the fourth and four in the fifth.
Rachel Hirschy added two hits, two runs and two RBIs, and Alyssa Bluhm went 1-for-1 with three runs and two RBIs. Keirstyn Grimm, Reba Morehouse and Lauren Smith each scored three runs, and Alaina Johnston finished with three RBIs.
Bluhm earned the win as she gave up just one hit in two scoreless innings. Loren Sparks threw three scoreless innings of relief.

Tribe falls to NK
NEW KNOXVILLE, Ohio — Errors buried the Division IV No. 7 Fort Recovery baseball team Monday in an 8-5 loss to the New Knoxville Rangers.
Fort Recovery (10-4) gave up five unearned runs in the second inning and trailed 7-1 after three. It closed the gap to 7-5 before New Knoxville (5-3) scored once in the bottom of the sixth for the final margin.
Kent Retz suffered his first loss of the season after a 3-0 start, although all five runs against him in 1 2/3 innings were unearned. He gave up three hits and two walks, and also hit two batters.
Blake Boughman went 2-for-4 with a double and three RBIs for the Tribe. Collin O’Dell singled and scored twice, and Shane Pottkotter had two hits and an RBI.

Stars defeat AC
MONROE — The South Adams Middle School girls track team dominated the host Adams Central Flying Jets 70-39 Monday. The Starfire boys won, 63-42.
Addie Wanner broke her own school record in the girls 100-meter hurdles, winning in 16.06 seconds. Olivia VonGunten was first in the 800 run in 2 minutes, 44.4 seconds and the 1,600 run in 5:52, and Caroline Kloepper turned in top times of 13.5 in the 100 dash and 27.8 in the 200 dash.
Wyatt Miller matched VonGunten as he took the boys 800 run in 2:38 and 1,600 run in 5:37. Jeffery Gerber posted a winning time of 26.7 in the 200 dash and also won the 100 dash.
Also picking up wins for South Adams were Emma Rosswurm and Calyssa Lehman for the girls team and Nick Wurster and Bo Dudley for the boys team.
