South Adams crushes Bulldogs to end skid (04/26/08)

BERNE - So much for the losing streak.

The South Adams High School softball team put an emphatic end to its three-game skid Friday night, crushing the visiting New Haven Bulldogs 12-0 in five innings.

The Starfires (8-3) scored four times in each of the first two innings, and added three more in the third en route to the victory. They had lost their previous three games to Bluffton, Heritage and Leo by a combined six runs.

Ashton Morgan and Lindsay Batt led the destruction, with Batt blasting a home run as part of a five-RBI night. Morgan went 2-for-2 with a double, three runs, three RBIs and a stolen base.

Miranda Potts also had a big game, going 3-for-3 with two runs, two RBIs and a stolen base.

Amber Melick tossed a two-hit shutout for the victory. She struck out five batters as she improved to 4-1.

Baseball falls to Lions

LEO - South Adams gave up five runs in the bottom of the second inning and couldn't claw its way back in an 8-5 defeat Friday to the Leo Lions.

Daniel Bollenbacher took the loss for the Starfires, who slipped to 6-4 after winning their first six games of the season. He gave up eight runs - five earned - on 10 hits and seven walks while striking out three in 10 innings.

Kyle DeArmond powered the South Adams offense from the leadoff slot, going 4-for-4 with two doubles and a triple. He scored twice and drove in a run.

Jordan Steiner smacked two doubles and finished with three RBIs and a run. Jacob Sonnentag had a double, and Tyler Hirschy singled and scored a run.[[In-content Ad]]
