South Adams defeats Tigers

BERNE — Neither race was close Tuesday as the South Adams High School cross country teams swept the top four positions on the way to a pair of victories. The boys team defeated the visiting Bluffton Tigers 16-43 while the girls team posted a 19-36 win.
Simon Sprunger set the pace in the boys race, winning by one second over teammate Eric Isch in 17 minutes, 56 seconds. Brody Shane was third in 18:01, and Evan Liechty finished fourth in 18:07.
Jenna Smith, Sawyer Shane and Hannah Moore all crossed the finish line in 22:44 in the girls race to earn the top three spots. Allison Amstutz placed fourth in 23:34.
Spikers fall
GARRETT — The Starfire volleyball team struggled Tuesday against the Garrett Railroaders in a 25-3, 25-11, 25-8 defeat.
The loss dropped South Adams to 3-17 on the season.In junior varsity action, SAHS rallied for a 7-25, 25-19, 15-7 victory. Jody Potts had 12 assists, and Hannah Mitchel finished with six digs and four kills.
Gridders shut out
LEO — South Adams middle school football teams both suffered shutout losses to Leo Tuesday, the eighth graders by a 30-0 score and the seventh graders 19-0.
Matt Hilton led the seventh grade defense with 13 tackles. Spencer Niece ran for 26 yards and caught for passes for 30 yards for the Starfires (1-3).
Mason Morningstar led the defense for the eighth grade squad (2-2) with seven tackles and two sacks. Isaiah Amstutz ran three times for 18 yards.[[In-content Ad]]
