South Adams falls by 8 to Lions

BERNE — The Starfires were on their way to a second straight conference win before the Lions’ offense found its roar in the late innings.
Host South Adams High School had a 3-1 lead Thursday before Leo scored four times in the fifth, sixth and seventh innings to swipe a 13-5 baseball victory.
Eric Pimentel suffered the loss in relief as he gave up five runs — four earned — on six hits and a walk in 1 1/3 innings. Starter Chase Ingle and reliever Collin Affolder were tagged for four runs apiece.
Blake Fox had finished 2-for-3 with a walk, two runs and an RBI for the Starfires, who are now 7-6 overall and 2-0 in the Allen County Athletic Conference. Alex Augsberger added two hits and an RBI, and Nick Busse had two hits and a run.

FR falls to Parkway
ROCKFORD, Ohio — Fort Recovery’s softball team got on the board first Thursday, but the host Parkway Panthers responded with eight unanswered runs to hand the Indians an 8-1 defeat.
Parkway (7-4, 3-1 Midwest Athletic Conference) tied the game in the second inning and scored three runs apiece in the third and fourth to pull away.
Ashley Homan suffered the loss as she gave up eight runs — five earned — on eight hits and three walks. She struck out two batters.
Jackie Fullenkamp smacked two doubles and scored the lone run for the Indians (1-10, 0-2 MAC). Haley Knapke was 2-for-3 with a double, and Janelle Schwieterman had a double and an RBI.

Stars shut out
BERNE — The South Adams softball team struggled at the plate Thursday as it suffered a 12-0, five-inning loss to the visiting Leo Lions.
Leo took control with three runs in the first inning. It scored at least once in each inning, including four times in the third.
Alyssa Bluhm suffered the loss as she allowed 11 runs — six earned — on nine hits in four innings. Loren Sparks gave up one run in one inning of relief.
Bluhm led off the game with a single for South Adams and stole second base. She advanced to third on a sacrifice bunt by Alaina Johnston, but was stranded there. The Starfires (3-3) finished the game with 12 strikeouts.
Tribe JV loses
MINSTER, Ohio — A four-run sixth inning gave the Fort Recovery junior varsity baseball team the lead, but the Minster Wildcats fought back to hand them a 6-5 loss.
Chase Bruns took the defeat as he gave up six runs — three earned — on six hits and four walks. Minster tied the game with a run in the bottom of the sixth inning and scored the game-winning run with two outs in the seventh.
Ben Will paced the offense for the Indians (3-5) with a single, a double and an RBI. Mitch Stammen had a hit and two RBIs, and Jacob Westgerdes added a hit and two runs.[[In-content Ad]]
