INDIANAPOLIS - A couple of losses weren't enough to knock the Starfires off the radar.
Despite falling by a combined 22-7 to Woodlan and Jay County last week, the South Adams High School softball team dropped just two spots in the Indiana Coaches of Girls Sports Association poll. The team dropped two positions in the Class 2A voting this week from 11th to 13th.
Scecina was voted first with seven of the eight first-place votes.
Eastern (Greentown) was second, and Hanover, which got one first-place vote, was third.
Crowe Ks 18 Patriots
GASTON - Monica Crowe recorded 21 outs. Eighteen of them were strikeouts.
Crowe led the host Wes-Del Warriors Monday as they defeated the Jay County High School softball team 2-0.
The Wes-Del senior is second in the state in strikeouts as Monday's effort lifted her total to 299 in 144 1/3 innings. The Patriots managed two hits in the defeat, one each by Kayla Phillips and Tiffany Davis.
Amber Edmundson turned in an impressive effort for JCHS (12-9) as well as she struck out 10 batters and gave up just five hits and a walk. The Warriors (17-6) took the victory thanks to two unearned runs in the bottom of the fifth inning.
Tigers defeat Fort
FORT RECOVERY - Maybe the tournament is the key.
The Fort Recovery High School softball team slipped to 6-16 Monday, losing for the fourth time in five games by an 11-0 count in five innings to the Versailles Tigers. The Indians' lone win in the stretch came Saturday with a 2-0 victory over Marion Local in the sectional tournament.
The Versailles victory improved them to 17-7 overall and 6-1 in the Midwest Athletic Conference, clinching it a share of the league title. The Tigers scored three runs in the fourth inning and tacked on eight more in the fifth to put the game away.
Beth May took the loss, giving up seven runs on eight hits in 4 ½ innings.
Ashley Grube singled and stole a base, and Joanna Snyder and LeAnne Tobin added on hit apiece.[[In-content Ad]]
