South Adams falls to Saints (10/14/2008)

BERNE - South Adams High School's volleyball team dropped to 1-3 against sectional opponents this year with a 25-18, 25-15, 25-22 loss Monday to the visiting Bishop Luers Saints.

Whitney Ellinger had 10 kills and four blocks for the Starfires (2-21) in the defeat. Jacie Yoder put up 22 assists, and Kyla Potts and Sara Richert each had 16 digs.

South Adams also dropped the junior varsity match, 25-15, 25-7.

Eagle spikers win

WARREN - Host Salamonie stayed close, but could not keep up with the West Jay Middle School volleyball teams Monday. The Eagle eighth graders won 21-19, 18-21, 15-13, and the seventh graders picked up a 21-13, 24-22 victory.

Shelby Shirk scored nine points to lead the eighth grade team, and Tasha McCowan added seven. Shadle Hale scored all of her six points in the opening game.

Chelsie Tighe's 13 points powered the seventh grade team. Ashley Motter added nine points.

St. Joe tops EJMS

DECATUR - East Jay Middle School's trio of volleyball teams picked up just one game Monday as they fell to host St. Joe.

The sixth grade Chiefs played the closest match, losing 26-24, 12-25, 15-7. East Jay dropped the seventh grade match 28-26, 25-14, and lost the eighth grade match 25-15, 25-8.

Jessica Kerrigan finished with 13 points, three digs and two kills to pace the EJMS sixth graders. Malarie Houck had six points and two assists, and Catherine Dunn totaled three digs and two assists.

Rachel Ferguson's six aces and two kills led the seventh grade Chiefs, who fell to 13-4. Katie Aker had four digs and two kills, and Katlin Petro added three kills and three aces.

Emily Devoe tallied six points and two kills for the East Jay eighth grade team (11-6). Abbey Vance had four digs and three points, Rachelle Jackson came up with four digs and Jill Dirksen and Hannah Ainsworth each had two kills and two assists.[[In-content Ad]]
