South Adams grapplers dominate Riverview (02/15/06)

HUNTINGTON — The Starfires didn’t have quite as many pins as Huntington Riverview had points, but they weren’t all that far off.
South Adams’ middle school wrestling team clobbered Riverview Tuesday, getting 20 pins in a 127-33 victory.
Four Starfires finished their matches in less than one minute, with Adam Hofstetter (125) setting the standard with a pin in 26 seconds. Other quick pins came from Braden Baer (105) in 29 seconds, Jordan Landers (90) in 39 seconds and Stephen Horton (155) in 59 seconds.
Adding first-period pins were Todd Batt (75), Gabe Sprunger (80), Dustin Wanner (85), Josh Ehr (95), John Striker (120), Sam Heckard (135), Justin Wygant (135), Zach Hough (160) and Jimmy West (225). Rounding out the pin victories were Cajon Dailey (100), Cody Vasquez (105), Stuart Poulson (110), Dusty Hunt (110), T.J. Burnfield (125), Cody Conner (150) and Chris Myers (200).
Other victories were recorded by Nick Batt (90) and Isaac Werst (115).
South Adams (7-0) also got victories from Sprunger, Landers, Baer, Poulson and Striker in a 23-20 win over Heritage Monday.
FR 7th reaches finals
FORT RECOVERY — Fort Recovery’s eighth grade girls basketball team made the championship of the Midwest Athletic Conference tournament with a win Monday. Not to be outdone, the seventh graders dominated their semifinal game 31-16 over the Parkway Panthers Tuesday and will also play for a MAC title.
The Tribe owned the opening quarter, rolling out to an 11-0 lead. Parkway played close in the next two periods, but the Indians took a 10-4 advantage in the fourth to pull away.
Kendra Brunswick matched the entire Panther team as she scored 16 points. Olivia Thien added four points.
Wes-Del defeats Eagles
DUNKIRK — The West Jay Middle School wrestling team managed just one victory in a 34-33 loss to the Wes-Del Warriors Tuesday.
Thirty of the Eagles’ 33 points came from forfeits. Jamie Kelsay (HWT) earned their only contested win by a 7-6 margin.
Indians drop out
VERSAILLES, Ohio — Fort Recovery’s eighth grade boys couldn’t keep up the pace. After reaching the semifinals by way of a high-scoring double overtime contest, the Indians dropped out of the Midwest Athletic Conference tournament Tuesday with a 38-26 loss to the Marion Local Flyers.
Greg Kahlig scored 11 points, and Michael Gaerke added seven in the defeat. The Tribe finished the year at 10-4.[[In-content Ad]]
