South Adams pushes record to 11-2 (05/02/07)

BERNE - South Adams' softball team pushed its record to an impressive 11-2 with a 4-3 win Tuesday over the Garrett Railroaders.
The Starfires led 1-0, trailed 2-1 and pulled back ahead to lead 3-2. Garrett tied the score with a run in the top of the sixth inning, but SAHS made good use of its final at bat by scoring the winning run in the bottom of the seventh.
The victory lifted South Adams to 3-1 in the Allen County Athletic Conference. Amber Melick pitched for the win, improving her record to 7-1.
SA baseball falls
BERNE - The South Adams baseball team went scoreless for the first five innings Tuesday and fell 5-2 to the Garrett Railroaders. The Starfires trailed 4-0 after three innings and failed to score until posting two runs in the sixth.
Andrew Caffee tossed 41/3 innings, giving up four runs - two earned - on seven hits for the loss. He struck out five and walked three.
Brent Habegger keyed the only scoring push by SAHS with an RBI single and a run in the sixth inning. He finished 2-for-3. Caffee also drove in a run, and Jacob Sonnentag scored one run.
Spartans top Jay JV
Jay County's junior varsity baseball team allowed seven runs in the top of the fifth inning Tuesday as the Connersville Spartans handed the Patriots their first loss, 14-4.
Michael Daniels suffered the defeat, giving up five runs - two earned - on five hits in 31/3 innings.
Colton Lombardo smacked a home run as he finished 2-for-2 with two runs and an RBI to lead the Patriots. Eric Homan also had two hits, and Dalton McGill finished with a triple and a run.[[In-content Ad]]
