South Adams softball slips back to .500 mark (04/20/05)

MONROEVILLE — Despite an excellent pitching effort from Amber Melick, the South Adams softball team fell to .500 for the first time this season with a 3-1 loss to the Heritage Patriots Tuesday.

Melick gave up just three hits in six innings. But, she was hurt by six errors, which led to all three runs being unearned.

The Starfires (4-4), who opened the season 3-0, got their only run in the first inning when leadoff hitter Kindle Inniger singled and stole second base. She scored on an RBI single by Brooke Fox.

However, Heritage tied the game in the bottom of the first inning and scored again in the third and fifth to take the victory.

Lacy Rhoades had a pair of hits for South Adams, and Jordan Lehman added one.

Knights blast JC baseball

OSSIAN — The Norwell Knights scored in every inning Tuesday, clobbering the Jay County baseball team 13-2 in five innings.

Norwell grabbed the lead with a three-run first inning, and posted five tallies in both the second and fourth.

It pounded out 10 hits, drew seven walks and took advantage of six Patriot errors.

Trent Bailey took the loss, allowing 11 runs — nine earned — on eight hits in three innings. He walked six and struck out two.

Chad Keen, Josh Ludy and Rhett Retter each had two hits for Jay County.

SA baseball loses

MONROEVILLE — Three straight three-run innings finished off the South Adams baseball team Tuesday as it fell 11-1 in six innings to the Heritage Patriots.

The game was a scoreless tie through two innings, but Heritage posted three runs in the third, fourth and fifth. South Adams scored its only run in the top of the six inning, and the Patriots scored twice in the bottom to end the game early.

Justin Caffee took the loss as he gave up six runs — two earned — on four hits in four innings. He walked three and struck out seven.

Austin Givens doubled, and Rich Kaup and Jordan Sharp had the only other hits for the Starfires.

Lukas Baumgartner scored the lone run.

Jay JV slams Falcons

PORTLAND — Four players had at least two hits Tuesday night as the Jay County junior varsity baseball team clobbered the Winchester Golden Falcons 12-1 in five innings.

Tony McCowan paced the effort with three hits for the Patriots, who scored three times in the second inning, seven in the third and two more in the fifth. One of his three hits was a double.

Luke Goetz, Tom McCowan and Kaleb Carpenter each added two hits.

R.J. Fuller earned the win, allowing just one run on three hits in five innings. He struck out four and walked one.[[In-content Ad]]
