South Adams sweeps invite

BERNE — The Starfires continued their undefeated run.
They were the only team Jay County couldn’t beat.
South Adams won its Spencer Haworth Memorial Invitational for the fourth straight season Saturday, winning all five of its matches to improve to 11-0 on the season in high school wrestling. JCHS was 4-1, with its lone loss coming by a 64-16 score to the Starfires.
SAHS, which went undefeated during the 2010-11 regular season, also defeated Woodlan 62-15, Delta 78-0, Union City 53-18 and Eastbrook 64-18. The Patriots topped Union City 53-23, Woodlan 45-29, Eastbrook 72-12 and Delta 57-21.
Eight Starfires were perfect on the day, with Sawyer Miller leading the effort at 106 pounds. Miller won all of his five matches by pin, with the quickest coming in 54 seconds against Woodlan.
Also finishing 5-0 for the Starfires were L.J. Moser (113), Austin Grabau (132), Todd Batt (138) and Isaac Werst (182). Eric Pimentel (126), Klayton Hinshaw (195) and Mason Morningstar (220) each added 4-0 marks.
Eric Hemmelgarn (285), Zach Metcalf (160), Dylan Harris and Hunter Gillette led Jay County, which was also second in the season-opening New Castle Duals, to its runner-up finish. Hemmelgarn matched Miller by recording pins in all of his five matches, including a win in 23 seconds over Eastbrook’s Brett Bridenthal.
Metcalf also won all of his matches by pin as he finished 3-0, and Harris and Gillette combined to win their three matches at 182 pounds.
Other winning records for South Adams came from Boaz Marbach (120), Charlie Hirschy (145) and Jordan Landers (170) at 4-1 and Nathan Bauman (HWT) at 3-2.
Turning in winning records for the Patriots in contested matches were Alex Abbott (106) and Dustin Tighe (132) at 4-1, Nick Spahr (220) at 3-1, and Conner Ray (120), Jesse Finnerty (145) and Eric Beougher (170) at 3-2.[[In-content Ad]]
