South Adams tops Archers (04/14/08)

Local roundup

BERNE - The Starfires ended game one as quickly as they could, but the second game still had to be canceled.

South Adams High School's baseball team had to settle for a one-win day Saturday, crushing the Fort Wayne South Side Archers 10-0. The second game of the scheduled double-header was canceled because of rain.

The battery took care of the game, with starting pitcher Daniel Bollenbacher tossing a shutout and he and catcher Jordan Steiner powering the Starfires at the plate.

Bollenbacher blanked South Side on just four hits in five innings. He struck out nine batters and walked two.

Steiner was a perfect 4-for-4 with a double, four RBIs and three runs. Bollenbacher smacked a pair of doubles and drove in three runs.

Daniel Dynes had two hits and two runs, Caleb Armenta added two hits, and Kyle DeArmond and Tyler Hirschy each scored twice.

DAYTON, Ohio - The Indians' trip to the home of the Dragons came up empty.

The Fort Recovery High School baseball team lost 8-0 Saturday to the Coldwater Cavaliers at Fifth Third Field, the home of the Class A Midwest League's Dayton Dragons.

The Tribe managed just three hits in the defeat. Frank Thien, Bobby Rammel and Curt Heitkamp had one single apiece.

Greg Kahlig suffered the loss.

Kenney goes 6-1

YORK, Penn. - Jay County High School junior Casey Kenney finished as the runner-up at 108 pounds this weekend as he competed as part of Indiana Gold at the Brute Scholastic Duals.

Kenney picked up a pin, a technical fall and two major decisions on his way to the championship match. He went 6-1 on the day, with his long loss coming in the finals to Nico Megaludis from Pennsylvania Suburbs.

He opened with a pin in 3-minutes, 17 seconds over Ben Kazmir of Ohio Thunder, and followed with a 3-0 victory over Sean Brand from New Jersey Blue. Against New York Super Six he topped Davis Ciaramella 18-3, and he edged Colorado's Jared Riech 4-1.

Kenney clobbered both opponents in the quarterfinals and semifinals with wins of 15-7 over Delaware's Brandon Davis and 19-5 New Jersey Red's Nick Francavilla respectively.[[In-content Ad]]
