BERNE — South Adams had six wins and four losses on the day. That was good enough.
The Starfire boys tennis team won the Allen Country Athletic Conference tournament championship Saturday, defeating both Adams Central and Bluffton 3-2.
Tom Masterson and Brett Zurcher led South Adams to the title, each posting a pair of victories.
Masterson, playing at No. 2 singles, gave up just two games as he defeated Adams Central’s Dan Kaehr 6-1, 6-1 and Clint Baumgartner of Bluffton 6-0, 6-0. Zurcher fought off Nathan Aschliman of Adams Central 6-2, 6-4 then cruised over Bluffton’s Nick Brinneman 6-0, 6-0.
Brandon Liechty defeated Jacob Castilow 6-2, 6-2 at No. 1 singles in the championship match to secure the Starfires’ title.
JC freshmen go 1-2
Jay County hosted its freshman volleyball invitational with the Patriots finishing with a 1-2 record.
St. Henry was perfect on the day, finishing with a win over Adams Central to take the title.
The Patriots lost both of their matches in pool play, falling to runner-up Adams Central 25-7, 25-14 and Muncie Southside 25-22, 25-17.
They rallied for victory in the cross-over match, defeating the South Adams Starfires 25-8, 25-12.[[In-content Ad]]
