Speed named top 100

Local roundup

Pazia Speed has been selected as one of Indiana's best.

The Jay County High School senior was named on the list of top 100 senior girls Thursday by Hoosier Basketball Magazine, an early step in the process of deciding Indiana's players for the Indiana-Kentucky All-Star game.

Speed, who plans to play basketball next year at Huntington University, was the lone senior on the Patriot squad that went 16-7 this season.

The players are being evaluated, and after the state tournament finals on Saturday, the list will be narrowed down to 60. The remaining players will be invited to Hoosier Basketball Magazine's 29th annual Top 60 Senior Girls' Workout on March 14 at Marian College in Indianapolis.

Jay girls win

The Jay County middle school girls swim team stayed perfect on the year Thursday with a victory over Bluffton. The boys team lost, 171-106.

Sophie Bader led the girls team to victory with a record time of 4 minutes, 30.22 seconds in the 400-yard freestyle. The team also swept diving with Rhianon Mills first ahead of teammates Ali Inman and Laci Hall.

Zane Shreve and Sok Vormohr each had a pair of victories for the boys team. They also led Jay County to relay wins in the 200 medley and 200 freestyle.[[In-content Ad]]
