Sprunger pitching for Bluffton baseball (04/14/07)
Collegiate Check-up
When the Bluffton University baseball team returned to the field, a South Adams graduate was on the mound.
Tyler Sprunger didn't start the March 30 game against Mount St. Joseph, but he did pitch 31/3 innings of relief in the 10-5 Beavers' loss. He gave up three hits and one run.
He pitched one-third inning March 31, retiring the only batter he faced, in a 7-6 loss to Mount St. Joseph. He also tossed 12/3 scoreless innings with one hit and one strikeout Tuesday in a 6-3 loss to Heidelberg.
Sprunger, a 2004 South Adams graduate, has allowed just four hits and one run in 5.1 innings for a 1.69 ERA.
Three Starfires - Will Grandlinard and Lukas Baumgartner, both freshmen, and Sprunger - were involved in the March 2 Atlanta bus crash which resulted in seven deaths. Twenty-nine passengers on the bus were hospitalized, including student coach Tim Berta, who is still recovering at Atlanta's Grady Memorial Hospital.
Grandilnard and Baumgartner have not yet played for the Beavers.
