St. Marys tops the Indians (11/30/05)

ST. MARYS — Fort Recovery’s middle school basketball teams had a tough time Tuesday as they opened against St. Marys.

The eighth grade team dropped a one-point decision 22-21, and the seventh graders lost 26-15.

Nicole Pottkotter was the only player on either squad to reach double figures, leading the eighth graders with 14 points. She also had six rebounds.

Kelsey Brockman had four points and five rebounds, and Josie Guggenbiller also grabbed five rebounds.

Nicole Dilworth scored five points in the seventh grade team’s defeat. Kendra Brunswick added four points.

Eagles triumph in OT

DUNKIRK — West Jay’s eighth grade girls basketball team came away victorious Tuesday, edging Montpelier 20-19 in overtime.

The game was tied at 17 at the end of regulation, and the Eagles’ three points in the extra session proved enough for the win.

Brittany Muhlenkamp and Jordyn Swearingen paced the win with six points. Taylor Steed added five points.

Chiefs split with Driver

East Jay’s girls basketball teams split their games with Winchester Driver Monday as the eighth grade Chiefs won 39-16 and the seventh graders fell 27-21.

Lindsey Wellman and Pazia Speed each reached double figures for the eighth graders, finishing with 12 and 11 points respectively. Shelby Gierhart added eight points.

Jordan McMillan paced the seventh grade squad with five points. Cara Garringer and Katie Butcher each had four.[[In-content Ad]]
